We Made It!

We made it. Will be able to stay open this summer, thanks to donations

and the people of San Felipe. Jeanie at Rumors gave us 200.00, Skip

Scroggins 100.00, Erin the clay guy gave us the money from the

50/50,Jorge Luna 220.00 from a art piece he donated. Plus all the

wonderful entertainers and volunteers who donated all their time and

efforts. Thank God for all the wonderful, giving people in San Felipe.

A really big thank you to everyone who supported us and the people who

brought tickets even knowing they could not make it. San Felipe, I and

the women of Desert Mothers love you and Thank-You from the bottom of

our hearts. The women cried and danced with Joy when I told them we

could stay open. We really thought we would have to close our doors.

Paper Coil Basket – Workshop $40 – TBD

Combines traditional basketry and contemporary fine crafting. Baskets are created using paper coils forming the coils into limitless shapes by manipulating coil placement and applying pressure to the coils.  Watercolors and acrylic paint can be used to replicate patterns from the native American Indian tribes or used in contemporary, abstract, representational styles or use your own treasures (broken jewelry, beads, feathers, cloth, paper, yarn, etc. etc.).

Encaustic/Beeswax Painting – Workshop $50 – April 18, 2012

Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid/paste is then applied to a surface—usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials are often used.  You’ll take home an artwork on wood that can be displayed in your home. this is a really exciting medium and the possibilities and combinations are endless

Clay Sculpture – Workshop $40 – March 22, 2012

Clay Sculpture – using black mountain clay (very pliable and stays soft longer) learn to manipulate the clay to create a small sculpture. Black mountain clay produces a smooth deep colored surface that does not require glaze.  It will be fired twice resulting in a dark chocolate brown color

Recycled Art Collage – Workshop $30 – February 18, 2012

Recycled art collage or assemblage.  Using materials that would usually be discarded you will create beautiful at least one piece of art that can be hung on the wall or placed on a table or stand.  Bring some of your favorite materials – paper bags, plastic bags, metal scraps, wood, discarded jewelry, cardboard. Desert Mothers is opening the Yummy Shack at the Flea Market (in El Dorado Ranch).  It’s the little Blue house (soon to be pink)

We will have the most unique menu offered there.
